The Framework

The Framework

A framework by Karmen Michael Smith for understanding how modern systems fragment human attention, identity, and agency — and how we begin building coherence again.

The Framework — Karmen Michael Smith

The Keynote

The framework, delivered live.

The Systems Are Not Broken.
They Were Designed This Way.

The modern world increasingly rewards attention over intention, reaction over reflection, fragmentation over coherence.

Many people believe they are failing. This framework proposes something different.

The problem may not be the individual. The problem may be the systems shaping the individual.

Karmen Michael Smith developed this framework to name the movement from Designed Fragmentation toward Sovereignty — through a deeper understanding of the Algorithmic Age, the Post-Notification Era, and Human Coherence.

Designed Fragmentation

Term

Designed Fragmentation

(noun)

The intentional or structural organization of systems, technologies, institutions, and incentives that divide human attention, identity, meaning, and agency into smaller and increasingly disconnected parts.

Term developed by Karmen Michael Smith

Designed Fragmentation names the condition many people feel but have not been taught to diagnose. It is the sense of being split across feeds, roles, identities, expectations, notifications, obligations, and performances until the self feels scattered.

In this framework, fragmentation is not treated as a personal defect. It is understood as a systemic outcome. The work begins by naming the design.

The Algorithmic Age

Concept

The Algorithmic Age

(noun)

The period in human history in which algorithms increasingly shape what people see, believe, buy, desire, fear, trust, and become.

Concept developed by Karmen Michael Smith

The Algorithmic Age describes a world in which recommendation engines, feeds, optimization systems, predictive models, and algorithmic incentives have become invisible infrastructure.

Technology no longer simply serves human behavior. It increasingly shapes it.

In the Algorithmic Age, identity is not only formed by family, culture, religion, education, or geography. It is also formed by feeds, ranking systems, suggested content, predictive targeting, and the invisible architecture of attention.

The Post-Notification Era

Term — Developed and Defined Here

The Post-Notification Era

(noun)

The cultural transition beyond reactive attention systems toward intentionality, coherence, agency, and human-directed living.

Term developed and defined by Karmen Michael Smith

The Notification Era trained humanity to react. The Post-Notification Era asks whether we can learn to choose.

This concept names the cultural and spiritual transition after decades of alerts, feeds, pings, algorithmic interruption, and constant digital demand. It asks what becomes possible when human beings begin to reclaim attention as a sacred, creative, and sovereign resource.

Human Coherence

Concept

Human Coherence

(noun)

The alignment of attention, identity, values, action, and meaning into an integrated life.

Concept developed by Karmen Michael Smith

Human Coherence is the response to Designed Fragmentation. It is the process of becoming whole enough to choose intentionally rather than react automatically.

In this framework, coherence does not mean perfection. It means alignment. The person becomes less governed by algorithmic interruption and more governed by purpose, meaning, values, spiritual clarity, and chosen attention.

Sovereignty

Concept

Sovereignty

(noun)

The capacity to govern one's attention, identity, values, and action toward a consciously chosen future.

Concept developed by Karmen Michael Smith

Sovereignty is not domination. It is not control over others. It is self-governance.

In the framework, Sovereignty is the result of moving through Designed Fragmentation, understanding the Algorithmic Age, entering the Post-Notification Era, and practicing Human Coherence.

Sovereignty is the ability to live from chosen intention rather than engineered reaction.
